Eligibility is determined by reviewing spring state/nationally normed summative assessment results each fall. For example, students who met the "Standard of Excellence" for 2025-2026 will be recognized in the fall of 2026-2027 school year. General Requirements Students in grades 3-8 (3rd grade students will be recognized at the beginning of 4th grade) Student in grades 3-8 must attain an "Exceeds Standards" on the West Virginia General Summative Assessment in one or all of the categories listed below. This assessment is completed in the spring and students will be recognized in the fall of the following school year: Math (3rd-8th) Reading/Language Arts (3rd-8th) Science (5th, 8th - tested only in 5th & 8th)
