Reminder, all current 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were informed at the end of the school year last year and during fifth grade move up day that there were new requirements to participate in literature fair this year. All students received a packet during this time (or could get one from any local library) that had to be completed for the book of your choice that was read during the summer. Students, if you want to be eligible to participate in the 2025 literature fair, you need to turn your literature packet into your English Language Arts teacher no later than Friday, September 12. If you read a book over the summer and have not completed your packet, you have one week to finish that. If you need a new packet, please see Mrs. Doss. Also reminder the mum fundraiser starts tomorrow. Please come support MMS students and staff.

🎭✨ At the August 19th Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting, we celebrated some outstanding contributions!

👏 The Pocahontas County High School Drama Club was recognized for stepping up to paint and clean the auditorium stage—a tough job that was badly needed. Huge thanks to Co-Sponsors Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Hummel for rallying current members and alumni to make it happen! Pictured: Mrs. Hughes and Drama Club member Nathaniel.

📚💼 Additionally, the entire school board and several central office staff were honored by the WV School Board Association for completing training focused on school board guidance and compliance. We’re proud of their commitment to excellence!

📢Day 3 of the Academy: Spotlight on Special Education 🌟

We wrapped up our Academy on Wednesday with a powerful and insightful day dedicated to Special Education. 💙

Our team had the privilege of learning from expert presenters from the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE) and our very own Special Education Consultant. Together, they led engaging sessions that deepened our understanding of special education practices, compliance, and strategies to support all learners.

From legal updates to inclusive instructional approaches, the day was packed with valuable information and meaningful conversations. It was a great way to end the Academy—focused on equity, support, and student success.

Thank you to everyone who made this day impactful!
