Integrated Community Engagement Collaborative (ICEC) informational flyer about a student survey. The flyer describes ICEC as a community effort involving schools, families, and local partners to create supportive environments for young people. Students are invited to complete a short, anonymous survey during one class period. Survey topics include school climate and belonging, peer relationships, community experiences, home life, and factors influencing youth decision-making, including substance use. Participation is voluntary; students may skip questions or stop at any time, and no names or identifying information are collected. A “Key Points for Families” graphic notes that the survey takes about 45 minutes, students can skip questions, responses are anonymous, and results help improve youth supports. Survey results are intended to identify strengths and areas needing support, inform local programs and activities, and strengthen partnerships among families, schools, and community groups. Contact information for the West Virginia Prevention Research Center is provided at the bottom. Friendly reminder that adventure Pocahontas forms are due tomorrow. If your child is interested in attending, please send signed copy back to school. We are currently working on a plan to get them back to MMS for buses on October 9 at early dismissal time. Pocahontas County schools will have a 3 hour early out for staff professional development on Friday and all students will be back in time for buses. Thank you!

It was a wonderful evening celebrating excellence in education and recognizing an outstanding teacher from Pocahontas County Schools.

🍎 Pocahontas County Schools is Off to a Roaring Start for the 2026-2027 School Year! 🎉

The excitement of a new school year is in the air, and our teachers, principals, and support staff have already been hard at work preparing for student success. Last week was filled with meaningful professional learning opportunities focused on ensuring every student has the tools and support needed to thrive.

A dedicated group of our K-5 educators, principals, and support staff participated in Science of Reading training, strengthening instructional practices that help all students reach grade-level reading expectations by third grade. Literacy remains a top priority, and we are committed to providing our students with the strongest possible foundation for future success.

In addition, I had the opportunity to travel to Charleston with Ms. Stephanie Burns to review the newly released West Virginia Writing Rubrics for grades 3-8. These important instructional resources will help teachers support student growth in writing and ensure our students are well-prepared for future academic and career opportunities.

As we move through the school year, our goal is to host family engagement opportunities at each school to share information about literacy, writing, student achievement, and college and career readiness. We believe that strong partnerships between schools, families, and the community are essential to student success, and we look forward to keeping everyone informed and engaged.

While the first day of school is one of my favorite days of the year, I don't always get the opportunity to see all the wonderful photos of students arriving at our schools. I'd love to celebrate this exciting time with you!
