Pocahontas County Schools is excited to share that our Brainwaves & Sunrays Summer School Program—now sponsored by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) Grant—is back for another year!
📅 Program Dates: July 6 – July 30
📍 Locations:
Green Bank Elementary School
Marlinton Elementary School
Hillsboro Elementary (small group intervention)
✅ Open to rising 1st–4th grade students
✅ Meals included
✅ Limited transportation available

We have several exciting events coming up as our 8th graders prepare for their transition to high school and explore future opportunities!
📅 May 20 – Business Luncheon at Snowshoe Mountain Resort
Students will participate in a professional luncheon sponsored by the Pocahontas County Convention & Visitors Bureau. They’ll meet local professionals, practice etiquette, and take part in mock job interviews. Students should dress in business‑appropriate attire. Transportation will be provided by school bus.
📅 May 22 – Move-Up Day at PCHS
Our 8th graders will visit Pocahontas County High School to tour the building, explore academic and vocational programs, and get comfortable with their future school environment. Students will return to MMS in time for regular dismissal.
📅 May 28 – Career Day at MMS
Students will explore a variety of career paths and hear from professionals across many fields.
⛰️ June 3–5 – Adventure Pocahontas

Frontier has resolved the phone issue for Marlinton Schools.

We are currently experiencing issues with our main phone lines at Marlinton Middle School (MMS) and Marlinton Elementary School (MES). At this time, schools are able to make outgoing calls but are unable to receive incoming calls. A service ticket has been opened with Frontier to resolve the issue.
