🌟 Today we celebrate School Service Personnel across Pocahontas County Schools! 🌟
From our dedicated bus drivers navigating mountain roads, to the secretaries, aides, custodians, cooks, and countless others—these everyday heroes keep our schools running smoothly and our students safe, supported, and cared for. 🍎🚌💛
As we embrace this year’s theme—Stronger Together—we recognize that it’s the teamwork, heart, and commitment of our service personnel that truly make our schools shine. 💪🏽✨
Let’s take a moment to say thank you to the incredible individuals who make a difference in our schools every single day. We are stronger because of you!

The staff at Marlinton Middle School look forward to seeing all of our students and families at open house this evening from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Our very own Ms. Hughes has worked really hard to plan an exciting evening with some pretty awesome door prices at the end! We will have community members, workshops, required device agreement station, and opportunities to meet with teachers along with many other things. There are extra mums for sale so please bring money to support MMS! We hope to see you all this evening!

Reminder, all current 6th, 7th, and 8th graders were informed at the end of the school year last year and during fifth grade move up day that there were new requirements to participate in literature fair this year. All students received a packet during this time (or could get one from any local library) that had to be completed for the book of your choice that was read during the summer. Students, if you want to be eligible to participate in the 2025 literature fair, you need to turn your literature packet into your English Language Arts teacher no later than Friday, September 12. If you read a book over the summer and have not completed your packet, you have one week to finish that. If you need a new packet, please see Mrs. Doss.
Also reminder the mum fundraiser starts tomorrow. Please come support MMS students and staff.

🧩 Day 3 – Final Day of the Teacher Academy: Focus on Special Education 💙
We wrapped up the 2025 Teacher Academy with a full day dedicated to enhancing special education services across Pocahontas County Schools.
Our educators learned from two outstanding presenters:

👩🏫 Lydia Young – Pocahontas County Special Education Consultant
They shared essential guidance on:
✅ Compliance
✅ Support systems
✅ Practical tactics to better serve students with diverse learning needs
This final day highlighted our commitment to inclusive education and ensuring every student receives the support they deserve. Thank you to all who participated in this powerful 3-day journey of growth and collaboration! 🌟

🎭✨ At the August 19th Pocahontas County Board of Education meeting, we celebrated some outstanding contributions!
👏 The Pocahontas County High School Drama Club was recognized for stepping up to paint and clean the auditorium stage—a tough job that was badly needed. Huge thanks to Co-Sponsors Mrs. Hughes and Mr. Hummel for rallying current members and alumni to make it happen! Pictured: Mrs. Hughes and Drama Club member Nathaniel.
📚💼 Additionally, the entire school board and several central office staff were honored by the WV School Board Association for completing training focused on school board guidance and compliance. We’re proud of their commitment to excellence!
